New KDIGO 2024 CKD Guideline Resources
The KDIGO 2024 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), published in March 2024 as a supplement to Kidney International with an executive summary in April 2024, updates the 2012 guidelines. Co-chaired by Professor Adeera Levin, MD (Canada) and Paul Stevens, MB (United Kingdom), the guideline targets healthcare professionals involved in kidney care, patients with suspected or diagnosed CKD, their caregivers, and policymakers and managers of CKD services.
The aim is to provide a useful and concise resource that addresses relevant questions with actionable recommendations based on systematic evidence reviews and consensus-based practice points. Key updates include new guidance on measuring estimated glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria, use of CKD risk prediction equations, and personalized treatment recommendations for reducing kidney and cardiovascular risks. Additionally, for the first time, the guideline introduces a dedicated chapter on research agenda to address unanswered questions and advance knowledge and evidence base in CKD.
